Racehorse Market Strong At Blooded Horse
Sale

by Dot Morgan

The Blooded Horse Sale Company just concluded the largest venue in its 55 year history with 1144 horses changing hands. It was the strongest November racehorse market ever with a 29% increase in the number of horses selling for over $10,000.

Northfield Park Open Trotter Patio Pete topped the sale at $37,000. Consigned by Nine Oaks Farm, the handsome bay son of Overcomer was purchased by Peter Kleinhans to race at the Meadowlands this winter. A trio of three year olds shared runner-up honors at $30,000 each. Armbro Watchman, a stakes placed son of Jate Lobell was purchased by Jenny Belcher to race in Ohio. Jack Turmonte took home Mr. Punch, an Indiana Sires Stakes winning son of Pilgrim’s Punch, and Jeff Fought got the nod for the good Ohio Sires Stakes filly, Sam’s Magic Time.

Bidding was spirited for several other stars in the tough Ohio stakes program. Bob Belcher signed the ticket for the two year old In The Pocket pacing colt, Secret Harbor, for $26,000 while the three year old trotter Call The Cops went with Brian Cross to New York on a $25,000 bid. Another pair of competitive young Ohio bred trotters, In The Know and Mysterious Caller were purchased respectively by John Lare for $22,000 and Gary Daniels, as agent, for $21,000. The solid conditioned trotter Incredibly Fast stays in Ohio on a $20,000 bid from James Schrack.

Whiteland Elegance, a sister to Kentucky Futurity winner, Whiteland Janice, fit the elite mare category. Consigned by Hal Jones, the barren daughter of Nearly Perfect brought $18,500 from Blue Ridge Standardbreds. Troy Dobbins of Bryant, Alabama was pleased to get the quadruple 1:55 producer, Lady Lafayette for $14,000 from the Armstrong Bros. consignment.

Need to have a Horse Tattooed or Freeze-branded?

Avoid the last minute rush of having horses tattooed or freeze-branded and DNA tested.  Foals can be tattooed at 14 months of age, or freeze branded as early as 10 days of age.  This allows the identification process to occur in a timely and efficient manner.  By scheduling early with the technician in your area, you prevent any last minute conflicts.

At the time of freeze-branding or tattooing, the technician will also pull hair from the foal's mane and mail it to the lab for DNA parentage verification.  Please have the Registration Paper or the Application for Foal Registration at the time of your appointment.  In order for the USTA to better serve its members, it is important to take action as early as possible.

All Yearling tattoos/freeze-brands must be completed prior to public auction.
